A very warm welcome to the home of Bedale and Aiskew Runners (BAR) which was founded in 2007 and has successfully grown so that we now have around 100 members. We are a friendly and supportive club that is a major part of Bedale Sports Club (BSC).
Situated on the A684, less than half a mile outside the historic market town of Bedale, BSC provides a home to a wide range of local sports clubs.
Bedale and Aiskew Runners meet every Wednesday at 6:15pm for general group runs. These are runs of between 3 and 8 miles in distance – on the road during the winter months and a mix of road/off road on footpaths and tracks, when lighter evenings & conditions allow. All abilities are catered for and we always look after newcomers – nobody gets left behind and every runner matters!!
On a Monday at 6:30pm more specialist running activities take place, such as speed and hill sessions. All activities are run under the supervision of BAR’s own UK Athletic licensed coaches.
In addition, we also have a flourishing speed walking section which meets on Wednesdays at 6:15pm; the same time as the runners.
Finally, we have a very active Nordic Walking section. As a club we have ten sets of Nordic Walking Poles and gloves available for use by club members. Nordic Walkers regularly meet once a fortnight on a Monday at BASA during the summer months and the first Monday of the month at Bedale Train Station during the winter. These sessions are either skills instruction or walking a set route to practice the technique.
Alongside the club’s established social running and speed walking on a Wednesday evening, Nordic Walking also takes place.
Weekends sees BAR members running by themselves or entering their own choice of events but more frequently members link up to have company on their running routes or volunteering to support others participating!
Membership is £45, which includes individual affiliation to both England Athletics and BSC and we welcome runners of all abilities from a minimum age of 16 upwards.
New members are welcome to come and try us for free for a few weeks before they need to pay any subscriptions. More details on Membership. If you’re not sure how to start, please get in touch via; info@bedaleandaiskewrunners.org.uk
Being part of BSC we can make use of the recently renovated indoor facilities in which to meet and socialise afterwards. As the name ‘BAR’ suggests we are good at being social and the club organises events such as quiz nights, away runs, cross country and parkrun takeovers. We also hold a yearly presentation evening during which we celebrate the various achievements of club members. Members of the club frequently compete in races on the roads, fells, moors; in cross country, triathlon, ironman and quadrathlon events, to name but a few, and do these in both the UK and abroad – there’s always a lot of news to share and celebrate, as well as learn from each other’s endeavours.
Do get in touch with any running club related questions, we’d be more than happy to answer them. As already stated, be assured every ability is catered for, so get yourself along and meet a great new group of like-minded friends.
