The recent glorious spring weather saw Bedale and Aiskew Runners (BAR) raise over £4000 for two local charities – Yorkshire Cancer Research (YCR) and Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team (SMRT) as part of the clubs biennial fund-raising event, BAR Endure 48 held at Bedale Sports Club and Community Centre. Over the 48-hour period which started Friday 19th April at 5pm and finished 5pm Sunday 21st April, at least two members from BAR, YCR or SMRT ran or walked the 5.1mile (8.2km) course. During this time 316 laps of the course were completed taking a combined milage to a staggering 1616miles (2600km) Putting this into context, that’s over £2.50 per lap and 62 marathons.
Local businesses from the surrounding area of Bedale- Askquith Butchers, Cockburn Butchers, The Greengrocer, Central Coffee House (Northallerton), Bedale CoOp, McDonalds, Cawingredients generously supported the event by donating food and beverages to feed the runners and walkers as they completed each lap.
The monies raised will be split equally between the two charities.
