Getting into the festive spirit eighty-six runners braved the bitterly cold weather on Sunday 18th December and took part in the Bedale and Aiskew Runners (BAR) Annual Christmas 5k and 1 Mile Santa Fun Run at Bedale Park.
Thomas O’Mahoney from Richmond & Zetland Runners broke the course record by twenty seconds in a time of 18:36. The first female over the line was Emily Crisp from Poplar Runners in a time of 23:10 missing out on the female course record by five seconds. The 1-mile Santa Fun run for the junior runners saw children in festive dress and their parents run, jog or walk the frozen course. All junior runners received a drink, chocolate snack and Santa medal for their fantastic efforts. The event was kindly sponsored by Aspect CPM and entry fees raised funds for the charity British Heart Foundation and BAR club funds.
The Hardmoor series of races are known to be tough and this year’s Roseberry Trail races were no exception. The icy conditions did not deter BAR runners Sarah Pardington and Helen Shepherd from completing the 10km race, and Anna Welch and Lena Conlin completing the marathon. This saw Anna complete her aim for the year finishing all the Hardmoors Trial Marathon series, what a fantastic achievement.
Although some of the local Park Runs have been cancelled lately due the weather this has not stopped BAR members David Fox and Sarah Norman achieving their 50th runs at Rothwell and Keswick respectively, well done and a Merry Christmas to all.
