BAR Parkrun takeover – volunteers needed!

On the 24th November 2018, Bedale and Aiskew Runners will be taking over Catterick Parkrun!

This is an opportunity to promote our club and to help give something back to the Parkrun Community that offers a positive, healthy, friendly environment every Saturday morning free of charge.

In addition, this will be extra special as it will mark the end of our first Couch to 5K program, which Chris Lees has done a fantastic job to get up and running. The aim will be to have as many Couch to 5K runners there as possible to run their first Parkrun, with the support of the rest of BAR.

Hopefully after the event we can stay around and have tea and cake, to celebrate what will be a good day!

So, we are looking for Volunteers to run the various tasks (ideally 15 people minimum), and also club members to run. A list of tasks is shown below and I would recommend (if you can, but not essential) volunteering at an earlier Parkrun if you can to see what is involved. Friends and family members are also welcome.

Tasks are:

  • First Timers Briefing
  • Tail Walker
  • 5/6 enthusiastic cow bell ringing Marshals
  • x2 Timekeepers
  • Funnel Manager
  • Finish Tokens
  • x2 Barcode Scanners
  • Finish Token Support
  • Number Checker
  • Token Sorting

Please email us if you can attend and if you will be volunteering or running, or if you just want to find out more about it.

Many thanks!

Couch to 5k – registration now open!

As previously advertised, we are delighted to be offering a couch to 5k program starting on the 19th September and lasting for nine weeks. The course is suitable for complete beginners and registration is now open!

If you would like to take part, please go to the registration page here: http://bedaleandaiskewrunners-org-uk.stackstaging.com/membership/couch-to-5k, read it carefully, and then submit your registration!

We look forward to welcoming you on to the program in a couple of weeks time!

Couch to 5k – for complete beginners – starts Wednesday 19th September

We are delighted to offer a 9 week program for people who are complete newcomers to running and would like to get started. No previous running experience or level of fitness is required – just some comfortable trainers and a little determination is all you need!

Our qualified course leader will guide and encourage you through the program, which will involve three activities per week from the 19th September to the 17th November with the goal of you being able to run 5k without stopping. And you’ll also be part of our lovely running club and get to meet new people (not all of whom are completely crazy!) who you can continue your running with after the course.

Running is good for your heart and joints, makes you feel good (runner’s high is a real thing, just don’t expect one on day 1 necessarily!), is one of the most effective ways to burn calories, builds leg and ab muscles, and is great for your mental health too.

If you are interested in taking part and would like to find out more information or sign-up please email us at info@bedaleandaiskewrunners-org-uk.stackstaging.com.
